Design creates culture.
Culture shapes values.

November 2021
This is the date that appears on our Figma file as the very first time my team and I started working on QMP Design System concretely.
January 2023
This is the date it has been released, and I mean in production!
Quotient Media Platform (QMP) got its first UI refresh since a long long time ago.
YAY! 🚀
Basics
A Design System is essentially a collection of guidelines and reusable components, providing a single reference source for teams to design, realize and build products.
In our technological world, it’s a Rosetta stone for product designers, software engineers, and product managers.
We had 4 goals in mind:
-
- To locate all inconsistencies and answer new needs
- To create a more accurate, compact, and stable design system and styles
- To optimize the UX and interface, by making familiar UI components more readable and accessible
- Design it with software engineers to shape the implementation according to design needs and allow high flexibility according to future needs.
And we had 4 main constraints:
-
- Avoid massive changes that cause user disorientation
- Changes must fit the whole system (even if not implemented widely at first)
- Consider required resources for development
- Consider implementation in phases
So it took a year to do all the following in parallel with our ongoing tasks:
-
- prioritize this project in the roadmap
- convince all the stakeholders to allocate some SW engineer’s capacity
- map all the different components in our platform
- Identify inconsistency issues
- Identify and choose the right UI framework according to our platform needs
- Build it in Figma
- Sharing and collaborating with SW engineers for a tailor-made implementation.
- Define the different phases and what will be included in Version 1 – phase 1 (heading, fonts, icon behavior, and form components)
- Review & QA implementation
- Celebrate Version 1 – Phase 1 with all the friends involved.
It’s been TEAMWORK at a very high level, both between my teammates and with all the software engineers/product managers who have been involved.
🙏🙏🙏 Thank You! 🙏🙏🙏
To all the Tel Aviv teams both Product & Engineers for your support and especially:
Noa Lazar and Sergey Kalinin for the hard work, the patience, the late hours, the fun, the hope, and the amazing love you put into this project, our products, and our company in general.
Thank you Sharon Maori for having been the first with Michal Neufeld to believe in this adventure and give all the support possible without which nothing could have been possible.
Clay Herzberg aka Shahar Har-Shuv for your tremendous will and hard work, your can-do attitude, your mind always open, and all your very special workarounds.
Thank you to product managers and leads for being our sponsors and for the help you brought in articulating “this product which serves other products”
Thank you to engineering leads for your courage to support this revolutionary and quite risky project from several aspects, and Front-End developers and QA for your dedication in the money time.
Thank you to my manager Tejas Desai (CTO) for his constant support 🙏
To be continued.
